Artificial Motion - Open The Magazine
Two Academy Award contenders have sparked a conversation about the use of AI tools. Just as the Academy Awards approach, two movies that are strong contenders have become the center of controversy due to their use of Artificial Intelligence. Both movies involved the manipulation of voice, with The Brutalist winning Best Motion Picture at the Golden Globes. In an interview with a video technology magazine, the film's editor, Dávid Jancsó, revealed the use of an AI tool called Respeecher to ensure the accuracy of Hungarian dialogue spoken by the main characters. This technology had previously been utilized by another film, Emilia Pérez, which also received multiple awards at the Golden Globes and is a favorite at the Oscars. The revelation of Jancsó's interview sparked a wave of negative reactions online from purists who questioned the authenticity of movies reliant on such tools. Emilia Pérez also faced backlash as a result of the controversy. The use of AI remains a contentious issue in the entertainment industry, with Hollywood screenwriters going on strike in 2023 to secure protection from being compelled to use AI and to increase transparency regarding its use. The The Brutalist incident highlights the inevitable integration of technology into filmmaking.
Big Shift
Open AI has formed a close partnership with Microsoft to achieve its current scale. Recently, it announced The Stargate Project, which aims to establish a $500 billion corpus to develop AI infrastructure in the US. However, the involvement of equity partners such as Oracle and Soft Bank has raised questions about whether Open AI is distancing itself from Microsoft.
The Coming Meds
The promise of significantly reducing the development time for new medicines is materializing. Demis Hassabis, the head of Alphabet's subsidiary Isomorphic Labs, announced at the WEF in Davos that they anticipate clinical trials for AI-designed drugs by the end of 2025. Hassabis, who co-founded Deepmind (later acquired by Google), utilized AI to predict protein structures and received a Nobel Prize for this groundbreaking work.

This app aims to empower creators with features such as a dedicated inspiration tab, a space for tracking early ideas, and an enhanced camera quality. Edits is currently available for pre-order on iOS, with an Android version slated for release soon.
