Woman Turns to ChatGPT for Help After Landlord Tries to Increase Rent
A New York City woman, identified only by her first name "Svetlana," recently shared her success story of using OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot to resolve a landlord issue. According to Svetlana, her landlord tried to increase her rent by 0.4% after she filed a complaint and a request for a rent decrease due to the malfunctioning washers and dryers in her apartment building. She turned to ChatGPT for help in drafting a letter to lower her rent.
ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot that can simulate human-like conversations with users based on prompts given to it. It has become increasingly popular, with 100 million monthly active users in January. Svetlana found ChatGPT incredibly helpful in drafting a letter that cited New York rent stabilization code and argued that the rent increase was retaliatory.
"It took a couple of attempts to get it perfect," Svetlana said in an interview. "I prompted ChatGPT to add more legalese."
ChatGPT was able to draft a cohesive letter that Svetlana then sent to her landlord. She received no official response, but a sign was posted in her building announcing that the laundry rooms were back in service. The machines were fixed in the same month Svetlana sent the AI-generated letter to her landlord.
Svetlana's success story is just one example of how AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT can help users navigate tricky legal situations and resolve disputes. It also highlights the potential benefits of collaborating with AI-powered tools in drafting important written documents.
