Sberbank's GigaChat: A New Rival to OpenAI's ChatGPT

Russia Releases AI Chatbot GigaChat to Compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT

Russian banking institution, Sberbank, has unveiled an AI chatbot named GigaChat. It is currently in its testing phase and is intended to rival OpenAI's ChatGPT. According to reports from Cybernews, GigaChat is capable of communicating more intelligently in Russian than in foreign languages. It can answer questions, converse and even write program codes. The chatbot is specifically released to a limited group, but testers can join the closed Telegram channel to try it out.

Last November, Russia banned ChatGPT over fears of disinformation and criminal usage. Hence, GigaChat is the second AI chatbot to be introduced in the country. In response, Microsoft-backed OpenAI geo-blocked the tool to prevent Russian users from accessing it. The launch of GigaChat has sparked interest from the tech world as it seems to be a viable alternative to ChatGPT.
