SAP Reportedly Plans to Launch ChatGPT-Powered Use Cases in the Coming Months
SAP, the enterprise application software company, plans to add generative artificial intelligence (AI) and other AI tools to its offerings. According to Reuters, the company is working with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and plans to launch use cases that include that generative AI model next month.
“We were studying ChatGPT for quite a while … we have built over 50 AI use cases embedding it with our technology,” said SAP CEO Christian Klein, per the report. SAP is working with customers, researchers, and analysts to test the AI technology and work to eliminate any biases or potential misuse as it develops these use cases.
The rise of generative AI models like ChatGPT is already, and increasingly, elevating the impact of chief financial officers (CFOs) in their organizations. Targeted finance-specific AI tools and solutions are automating legacy workflows, surfacing critical cross-departmental information that goes beyond just closing the books at the end of the week or month, and helping leaders chart a data-driven path forward for sustainable growth that takes a holistic, real-time view of the business.
OpenAI reported in March that large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, and the next-generation software tools built atop them, could impact up to half the tasks necessary for 19% of the jobs in the United States. Jobs that already involve a variety of software-driven tasks could potentially face more disruption from AI tools, whereas industries reliant on manual labor are likely to see the least impact, OpenAI said at the time.
The Reuters report comes on the same day that SAP announced its earnings results for the quarter that ended March 31 and said its cloud and software revenue was up 10%. “We have entered a powerful new phase in our strategic transformation, with top-line and bottom-line results clearly demonstrating the tipping point we passed in the fourth quarter 2022,” Klein said in a statement. “Our cloud momentum continues at a fast pace, which is contributing to our strong revenue and double-digit non-[International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)] operating profit growth this quarter.”
Overall, SAP's plans to launch use cases that embed ChatGPT technology with their own could pave the way for new ways of working in the future, making it easier for businesses to automate certain processes and make data-driven decisions.
