Gemini AI in Gmail Lets Users to Generate and Summarise Emails
Gemini AI is now available in Gmail as a 'Summarise this email' feature. Google recently showcased the integration of Gemini AI in Gmail during the I/O developer event in May 2024. This new functionality is powered by the Gemini 1.5 Pro Large Language Model and can be accessed on Gmail's side panel represented by a star sign. The side panel extension is not limited to Gmail but also available in tools like Sheets, Drive Docs, and Slides.
AI-Powered Features
Gemini AI in Gmail empowers users to draft emails effortlessly and even employ AI to generate responses to incoming emails. Among the features is a 'Summarise this email' tool that provides a concise overview of the email content. Users can also interact with Gemini by asking questions and retrieving information from the content of emails within their inboxes or drives. The AI assistant can construct responses to specific queries by analyzing information from previous emails. For example, users can inquire about their upcoming meetings with a particular company, and Gemini will extract the necessary details from past correspondences.
Integration with Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets
Google Docs users can leverage the Gemini side panel to brainstorm ideas and create content using data from other files. The integration of AI technology into Google extends to Slides, offering users the ability to generate new slides and images as well as summarise presentations.
Similarly, Sheets users can utilize the AI feature to create tables seamlessly.
Availability and Compatibility
Gemini is currently accessible to Google Workspace customers subscribed to various models such as Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on, and Google Open AI Premium. The Gemini in Gmail feature is compatible with Android, iOS, and web browsers.
