Remembering the 1-900 Services Ads
Thinking back to my childhood, something that always makes me laugh is remembering the avalanche of ads on TV for 1-900 services. One thing you’d hear time and time again if you listened for it: “We’re waiting patiently for your call… SO CALL NOW!!!!!!” That always made me chuckle. It became a running joke between me and my childhood best friend.
ChatGPT: The New 1-800 Number
Anyway, I was reminded of this memory when Jeff sprung late breaking news on today’s AI Inside podcast that ChatGPT now has a 1-800 number! OpenAI has launched its search product for free ChatGPT users. You must be logged in to use it, and you can activate it by clicking the Search button in the chat interface.

I even used ChatGPT search to give me information on the news that ChatGPT search has launched for free users. It did a great job, so you know, up to date! You can also install a Chrome extension to make ChatGPT the default search engine.
New Features and Tools from OpenAI
OpenAI has also introduced Projects for organizing and grouping into workspaces. This includes conversations, files, custom instructions, etc. It reminds me of Perplexity's Spaces functionality, though much more powerful. It's probably better compared to Google's NotebookLM, minus the podcasty functionality.
New dev tools have also been released, including o1 in the API, realtime API updates for low latency voice applications via WebRTC integration, and Preference Fine-Tuning for customized models. OpenAI's release schedule has garnered attention in AI circles with these significant upgrades.
Today’s Release: 1-800-CHATGPT
And finally, how could we skim over today’s release of 1-800-CHATGPT. Just… call it and remember what it was like back in the day.
Google's Latest AI Updates
Google doesn't want to be left behind and continues to push out its own avalanche of AI updates. Last week they introduced Gemini 2.0, Project Astra, and Agents. This week, they've unveiled Veo 2 and Imagen 3.

Veo 2 offers video generation up to 4K resolution and is trained on the "language of cinematography". Imagen 3 boasts brighter, better composition, more diverse art styles, and greater accuracy. Google also unveiled a new image generation experiment called Whisk that allows for the remixing of elements from images.
NotebookLM Enhancements and UK Copyright Exemptions
NotebookLM now features a 3-panel layout and the ability to interact with podcasts. The UK government has proposed new copyright exemptions for AI companies to use copyrighted material freely for model training, with creators having the option to opt out.
AI Developments Beyond OpenAI
Nvidia has introduced a new Supercomputer devkit called the Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit, offering enhanced performance compared to its predecessor. Anthropic's Claude chatbot, known for its emotional intelligence, has gained popularity in the tech community.
YouTube creators can now opt into AI training on their content, while Grammarly has acquired productivity startup Coda. Ray-Ban's Meta smart glasses have received significant upgrades, including AI integration.
