Meta AI introduces memory feature on its apps in US and Canada
Meta has announced updates to its AI-powered assistant, Meta AI, focusing on personalization and memory-based features. These enhancements aim to make Meta AI more tailored to individual users by leveraging data from Facebook and Instagram profiles, as well as past interactions.
The "Memory Boost" feature, introduced on January 27, 2025, allows the assistant to remember user preferences and provide customized recommendations. For instance, if a user identifies as vegan, the assistant can suggest suitable recipes or local dining options. Additionally, the assistant can now utilize account information to recommend events or restaurants based on location or recently viewed content on Instagram.

Meta AI is built on Llama 3.3, Meta’s large-scale language model, and is accessible across platforms like Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. It was first launched in September 2023 during the Meta Connect event. The assistant also integrates real-time search capabilities powered by Bing and supports multimodal interactions on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, enabling users to ask questions about visual inputs captured by the glasses.
These updates highlight Meta's strategy to position its assistant as a leading personalized AI tool while addressing user concerns about privacy. Users can review and delete stored data at any time. This move aligns with broader trends in AI development among tech companies aiming to create more conversational and context-aware assistants. Source
