US chipmaker NVIDIA to open AI research, data centers in Vietnam ...
The Vietnamese government and U.S. chip giant NVIDIA have signed an agreement to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) research and development center as well as an AI data center in Vietnam. Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, presided over the signing between the two parties on Thursday afternoon.
Partnership for AI Innovation
The centers will function as hubs for NVIDIA and its local partners to foster AI innovation. This agreement is a result of the close collaboration between the two sides over the past year, which began with PM Chinh's visit to the NVIDIA headquarters in the United States in September last year. During the signing, the prime minister expressed his appreciation for Huang's strong determination and commitment to making Vietnam NVIDIA's 'second home'.
Building an AI Ecosystem
Huang emphasized that like electricity transformed water and sunlight into electricity, AI is a new industry converting electricity and data into valuable digital intelligence. He projected that the AI industry, which will generate trillions of dollars, would benefit the Vietnamese people and companies. Recognizing Vietnam's potential and strengths, Huang stressed the significance of government support and investment in the AI sector to construct an AI ecosystem for both Vietnam and NVIDIA.
Huang assured, "We will always be a friend and a partner of Vietnam during its AI development journey."
Support for AI Development
The prime minister lauded Huang's vision and encouragement, emphasizing how they convinced him of Vietnam's capabilities and future prosperity fueled by AI. He called for enhanced cooperation between the two sides in workforce training, startup inspiration, and innovation activities among the youth, aiming to unleash Vietnam's potential through AI.
Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, speaking at a press briefing post-signing, considered the collaboration with NVIDIA as a pivotal moment for Vietnam. He stressed that establishing a world-class AI research and development center operated by NVIDIA would lay the groundwork for an AI ecosystem in Vietnam, facilitating the application of advanced AI technology.
Opportunities for Talent and Engineers
The center is expected to draw talent and high-skilled hi-tech engineers to Vietnam, leveraging NVIDIA's resources for mutual growth and advancement in the AI sector.
