My AI Chatbot Takes Snapchat by Storm!

Snapchat Launches My AI Chatbot, Powered by ChatGPT

Snap Inc., the tech giant behind Snapchat, has announced that its My AI chatbot feature, powered by the viral AI chatbot ChatGPT, is now accessible to all users of the app. The customizable tool was previously only available to paying Snapchat+ subscribers.

The My AI chatbot feature provides users with recommendations, answers to their queries, helps them make plans, and can even write poetry on their behalf in a matter of seconds. The feature can be summoned into conversations with friends by mentioning it with “@MyAI.” Users also have the option to give it a name and create a customized Bitmoji avatar to personalize it further.

ChatGPT was created by OpenAI and made available to third-party businesses more than a month ago. Snap, along with Instacart and tutor app Quizlet, were among the early partners who experimented with adding ChatGPT to their services.

The tool, which was publicly released in November 2022, can generate original essays, stories, and song lyrics in response to user prompts. This impressive ability has sparked an arms race among tech companies to incorporate similar AI tools in their products.

Although ChatGPT provides added functionality, companies that tap into its features may encounter some risks. Since the tool is trained on vast troves of data online, it can spread inaccurate information and has the potential to respond to users in ways they might find inappropriate.

Snap has acknowledged these concerns in a blog post. “My AI is far from perfect, but we’ve made a lot of progress,” it stated. About 99.5% of My AI responses conform to community guidelines, and Snap has implemented changes to help protect against inappropriate or harmful responses. The company has also added moderation technology and included the new feature in its in-app parental tools.

The feature offers Snapchat users an opportunity to assess the functionality of AI chatbots in their everyday lives. It remains to be seen how much users want to interact with AI chatbots for customer service and other applications across their favorite apps.
