Elon Musk to Launch TruthGPT, a Competitor for ChatGPT
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, is set to launch a “maximum truth-seeking AI” that he’s calling TruthGPT. It's an AI model that will challenge the current market, especially AI-based chatbots such as ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI. Musk believes that TruthGPT will “understand the nature of the universe” to determine the best path to safety for AI systems.
Musk has long been critical of unchecked AI, stating that it's the “biggest existential threat” in 2014. He co-founded OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT. Musk has now become a competitor to the company he co-founded and criticized the company he co-founded of training AI to lie.
Musk created a new company on 9 March called X.AI to compete with OpenAI and join the generative AI race. This filing lists Musk as the company’s director, while his personal wealth manager, Jared Birchall, is listed as its secretary. Musk has also been assembling a team of AI researchers and engineers, and he is in talks with SpaceX and Tesla investors to pump money into his new venture.
Recently, Musk signed an open letter calling for a six-month pause on AI development of models more powerful than GPT-4, OpenAI's latest AI model. However, the letter faced a wave of criticism as some signatures were fake, while others removed their support. The organization behind the open letter is mainly funded through the Musk Foundation.
With Musk's experience and success with SpaceX and Tesla, we can anticipate that TruthGPT will be an AI to look out for in the future of AI technology.
