Meta Expands AI Investment In Vietnam
Meta Platforms recently announced its plans to expand investment in artificial intelligence (AI) innovation in Vietnam. The company aims to produce its latest mixed reality headsets in the country starting from 2025. This strategic move is part of Meta's efforts to strengthen its presence and operations in Vietnam.
The decision to invest in Vietnam was reinforced after Meta's president for global affairs, Nick Clegg, had a meeting with Vietnamese President To Lam in New York. During the meeting, Clegg emphasized the significance of Vietnam for Meta's growth strategy. He stated, "Beginning in 2025, Meta will expand manufacturing of its latest Mixed Reality device, Quest 3S, to Vietnam."
Although Meta has not disclosed the exact size of the investment or provided specific details about its current operations in Vietnam, the company has already established a substantial user base in the country. With tens of millions of users on its Facebook platform in Vietnam, Meta recognizes the country's importance. Clegg highlighted this by stating, "Vietnam continues to be an important country for Meta. Millions of small businesses and consumers rely on our platforms."
Expansion of AI Services
Meta also unveiled plans to enhance its AI services in Vietnam by announcing upcoming tests of Meta AI in the Vietnamese language. This initiative follows the company's successful launch of Business AI for Messenger testing in June. The full rollout of Meta AI services in Vietnamese is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Growing Importance of Vietnam in the Tech Sector
This recent investment by Meta in Vietnam's AI sector comes on the heels of another significant development in the country's tech industry. SpaceX, a leading aerospace manufacturer and space transportation company, also revealed plans to invest $1.5 billion in Vietnam. These investments underscore Vietnam's increasing prominence as a technology hub in the region.
As Meta continues to expand its AI investments in Vietnam, the country is poised to further establish itself as a key player in the tech landscape, attracting attention from global tech giants.
