Meta is eager to secure artificial intelligence (AI) talents by recruiting open AI research personnel one after another
Meta has recently made significant strides in expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) team by recruiting a group of talented open AI researchers. According to Information Technology (IT) media Deformation, Meta has successfully onboarded four new researchers from Chinese universities. The new additions to Meta's AI research team include Zhao Seongja, Ren Hongyu, Yu Zhiyahu, and Xu Qiao. Of particular note, Zhao Sungja and Ren Hongyu have played pivotal roles in the development of the 'o1-mini' and 'o3-mini' projects.

Recruitment Strategy
On the 26th, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Meta had successfully hired four individuals, three of whom were previously based at OpenAI's Zurich office in Switzerland. This move highlights Meta's commitment to attracting top-tier talent in the field of open AI research. Despite criticisms from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman regarding Meta's aggressive recruitment tactics, the tech giant remains steadfast in its pursuit of top AI talents.
Challenges and Opportunities
Meta's recent struggles with AI model performance have raised concerns within the industry. Once hailed as a leader in open-source AI models, Meta has faced challenges in garnering positive market responses and experiencing delays in releasing new models. In response to these setbacks, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has taken proactive steps to bolster the company's AI capabilities through strategic talent acquisitions.

Future Endeavors
Meta's focus on leveraging its newly recruited OpenAI researchers for the ambitious 'super-intelligence' project underscores the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI technology. In a bid to develop a virtual AI system that surpasses human capabilities, Meta recently established a dedicated "super-intelligence" research institute and made significant investments in AI startup Scale AI. The recruitment of Scale AI CEO Alexander Wang further emphasizes Meta's dedication to fostering groundbreaking AI innovations.
