Meta delays release of its 'Behemoth' AI model: Report | Technology News
Meta Platforms is delaying the release of its flagship “Behemoth” AI model due to concerns about its capabilities, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. Company engineers are facing challenges in significantly enhancing the abilities of the Behemoth large-language model. This has led to questions among staff about whether the improvements over previous versions justify a public release, according to sources cited in the report.
Development Schedule
Initially, Behemoth was set for release in April to coincide with Meta’s first AI conference for developers. However, the internal target for the model's launch was later moved to June. Currently, the release has been postponed to fall or a later date, the report stated.
Response from Meta Platforms
In response to a request for comment from Reuters, the social media giant did not provide an immediate response. In April, Meta had announced a preview of Llama 4 Behemoth, which was described as “one of the smartest LLMs in the world and our most powerful yet to serve as a teacher for our new models”. The company also introduced the latest versions of its LLM Llama, namely the Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick, during the same month.
