Meta updates labeling of AI-generated content to 'AI info'

Meta changes name of 'Made with AI' label for AI-generated content ...

Meta has been labeling content created by AI since May 2024 with the label 'Made with AI.' However, some photographers and others have pointed out that even when they post photos that have been edited using Adobe Photoshop or similar software, the 'Made with AI' label is still attached to them. Meta reports that 'Photoshop and other image editing software contain some content that uses AI, such as retouching tools. As a result, industry-standard indicators are inserted into images output by Photoshop, resulting in the label 'Made with AI.'

In response to these complaints, Meta announced that it has updated the name of the 'Made with AI' label to 'AI info.' Clicking on the label will still display details about why the label was applied and whether the content was likely generated by AI. When the introduction of labeling was announced in February 2024, the label name was also 'AI info.' Therefore, about five months after the announcement, the label name has reverted to 'AI info.'

Meta spokesperson Kate McLaughlin said, 'Meta is working with companies across the industry to improve our processes so that our labeling approach better aligns with our intent.'
