Ropet Is a Cute, Cuddly, ChatGPT-Backed "AI" Companion Robot
Hong Kong-based robotics startup Ropet has introduced an adorable fur-coated companion robot that boasts conversational capabilities, powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT large language model (LLM).

Interactive Companion with Advanced Features
Ropet is described by Ropet's Jaibin He as a cuddly AI robot pet intended to be a warm and interactive companion that brings joy and comfort to users. The robot features advanced visual recognition to identify faces and respond to expressions. It can also react to touch, voice, and movement, continuously learning and evolving with every interaction.
Multi-Modal Interactions and Advanced AI
The control hardware within each Ropet connects to the user's Wi-Fi network and interacts with OpenAI's ChatGPT large language model through API calls. This integration enables Ropet to respond to natural-language prompts by generating text that is then read out using a speech synthesis engine through a built-in speaker. The robot also boasts touch sensitivity, music reactivity, facial recognition, and object classification capabilities with a focus on food items.

Ropet heavily relies on advanced AI and multi-modal interactions, leveraging ChatGPT for conversations and emotional responses. While significant progress has been made, ongoing software improvements are planned to enhance the user experience and emotional intelligence capabilities even further post-launch. Regular software updates will be provided to ensure continuous enhancements based on user feedback.
Crowdfunding Campaign and Early-Bird Rewards
The Ropet project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with physical rewards starting at $169 for early-bird backers of the Ropet Basic model. The Ropet Pro variant, priced at $189 for early-bird backers, includes a charging base in addition to the USB Type-C connectivity present on the robot itself. Both options offer a 43 percent discount compared to the planned retail price. All hardware is anticipated to be shipped by March next year, according to Ropet.
