No need to polish your writing skills, Google's AI will now make you...
A recent update from Google is changing the way we write emails and documents. Google has expanded its “Help Me Write” shortcut to Gmail on the web and introduced a new “Polish” shortcut for both web and mobile platforms. This new feature aims to assist users in drafting emails or documents more efficiently with the help of AI technology.
AI-Powered Writing Assistance
The “Help Me Write” tool is powered by Google’s AI and is designed to generate email content from scratch when the draft is empty. This tool will now appear directly within the body of an email, making it convenient for users to create emails using AI assistance.
Automated Email Refinement
For Gmail drafts with 12 or more words, users can now utilize the “Polish” tool to automatically refine their emails with polished, AI-generated suggestions. This feature is accessible to Gmail web users by clicking the text or using the shortcut “Ctrl+H.” The same feature is also available on the Gmail Android app, allowing mobile users to swipe the shortcut for refined email drafts. Users will have quick editing options such as “Formalize,” “Elaborate,” and “Shorten” to enhance their email content.
Availability and Rollout
Google has announced that both the “Help Me Write” and “Polish” shortcuts will be pre-enabled for Google Workspace customers with specific subscriptions. This includes Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education add-ons, and Google One AI Premium subscriptions. The rollout of these features began on October 28, 2024, and is expected to take up to 15 days for full availability.
