Survey Shows 90% of U.S. Companies Prioritize ChatGPT Experience in Hiring
The use of ChatGPT and generative AI has now extended to company recruitment. According to a survey conducted by Resume Builder in April 2023, over 90% of companies in the United States are actively seeking workers with ChatGPT experience. The main reasons for this trend include their ability to provide creative and technical support, enhance work efficiency, save time and material resources and teach other staff members how to learn ChatGPT.
The survey also revealed that 66% of business leaders believe employees with ChatGPT experience can give their companies a competitive edge, making ChatGPT-experienced workers highly sought after. Software engineering, customer service, HR, and marketing are the areas where such skilled employees are most urgently required.
As companies recognize the scarcity of these skills, they are willing to pay top dollar to attract these employees. The study shows that almost one-third of companies are hiring prompt engineers – employees who develop and optimize text prompts for generative AI services. Among these companies, one in four believe salaries will exceed $200,000 a year, making prompt engineering one of the hottest new tech jobs driven by generative AI.
However, there is a downside to this trend as three-quarters of companies predict that hiring prompt engineers will “very likely” or “somewhat likely” lead to job cuts in their organizations.
The survey was conducted online in April 2023 and included 1,000 participants in the United States who held C-level executive, owner, or partner positions at companies with more than ten employees.

Companies are actively seeking prompt engineers to train other staff members and improve their production output, work efficiency, reputation, and market share.
