OpenAI to rival Google's search? | LinkedIn
Is OpenAI ready to take on Google and search startup Perplexity? The company confirmed in a post on X it plans to unveil “some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates” Monday, yet CEO Sam Altman insisted (also on X) it's "not gpt-5, not a search engine." This contradicts Bloomberg and The Information's earlier reporting, which claimed the AI-backed feature for ChatGPT would be capable of searching the web and citing sources in its results. OpenAI (backed by LinkedIn parent Microsoft) is making its announcement one day before Google's annual I/O conference on Tuesday, where it often shares AI-related developments.
OpenAI's Search Engine Launch
OpenAI is reportedly releasing a search product on Monday during an event called for 10 a.m. pacific. BUT! Sam Altman just went on Twitter to manage expectations.
"Not gpt-5, not a search engine, but we’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! feels like magic to me," he said.

The Future of AI Search
OpenAI is reportedly releasing their Search engine as early as next Monday, potentially threatening Google's dominance over Search.
Almost 57% of Google's revenues in 2023 stemmed from Search and, depending on SearchGPT's performance and user adoption, this could mean some serious trouble for Google.
On another note, I am curious to see how OpenAI's new Search product will lead to innovation in the ad tech industry, with a potentially massive channel opening up new possibilities.
