Google's Jarvis AI agent leaks on the Chrome store
Google's latest consumer-facing AI trick just leaked in a manner that raises questions about whether it was truly accidental. A Chrome Web Store page described Jarvis as “a helpful companion that surfs the web for you,” and despite the limited information available to the public at the moment, it has certainly sparked conversations.
The leak follows closely on the heels of our first introduction to Project Jarvis a week ago, so it doesn't come completely out of the blue. It seems that Google's strategy of gradually introducing the tool for testing purposes may be linked to the inadvertent posting on the Chrome Web Store. Jarvis seems to bear some resemblance to a feature recently incorporated into Anthropic's Claude LLM, which takes control of your computer's cursor to carry out mundane, repetitive tasks. In the case of the Chrome extension, these tasks will include activities like making reservations and purchasing groceries.
A virtual coworker for the mundane tasks
Reportedly, Jarvis operates by capturing and analyzing screenshots, processing them through Gemini 2.0, and then executing appropriate actions. In this aspect, it shares similarities with Apple Intelligence's "onscreen awareness" and the operational approach of the controversial Microsoft Recall.
While some users managed to download the extension, they were unable to use it. It is highly likely that the extension will not go live until Gemini 2.0 is officially released, which is anticipated to be next month. For now, we will have to continue browsing the web independently, resembling AI-deprived cave-dwellers.

An AI agent that can handle flight bookings, the AI wearable still faces some underlying challenges, and while Pixels may have a lifespan of 7 years, the storage capacity of 128GB may not suffice.
