Google Officially Announces the Pixel 9 Smartphone Series
It's that time of the year again when the major smartphone makers announce new smartphones. Google announced the latest iteration of its Pixel smartphone series, focusing heavily on AI.
Features of the Pixel 9 Series
As part of its Made by Google 2024 keynote event, Google unveiled the Pixel 9 series, consisting of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. These devices feature a 6.3-inch OLED display, with the Pixel 9 Pro XL having a slightly larger 6.8-inch display, all with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Powering these phones is the Tensor G4 chip, promising up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge.
One standout feature of the Pixel 9 series is the brightness of the standard Pixel 9, which is 35% brighter than its predecessor, the Pixel 8. Additionally, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL offer up to 20x Super Res Zoom with features like Night Sight Video.
Camera Enhancements
Google has made significant improvements to the camera systems on the latest Pixel smartphones. The Pixel 9 features a dual-camera setup with a 50MP wide lens and a 48MP ultrawide lens with Macro Focus.
The Pixel 9 Pro series, including the Pro Fold, boasts a triple camera rear system with wide, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses.
The Tensor G4 chip has enhanced Google's AI system, Gemini, allowing the Pixel 9 series to understand text, images, and audio better. Gemini Nano will include custom AI weather report features to provide accurate weather information to Pixel 9 series owners.
New AI Features
Google announced the rollout of Gemini Live, a voice chatbot available to Gemini Advance subscribers.
Pricing and Availability
The Pixel 9 starts at $799, available in Pink, Mint Green, Black, and White. The Pixel 9 Pro starts at $999, while the 9 Pro XL starts at $1,099, both offering Light Pink, Light Grey, Black, and White color options. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold starts at $1,799 and comes in Black or White.
Google's Pixel 9 series is set to be released on September 9, with an early release on August 22 for purchases made at the Google Store or retail partners.
