Russia now has its own AI chatbot: GigaChat
Russia has announced the release of its own AI chatbot named GigaChat, designed to compete with the West. Sberbank, the country's largest banking institution, explained that GigaChat was developed specifically for Russian speakers and is able to communicate more intelligently than foreign neural networks. According to Sberbank's CEO, GigaChat is a breakthrough for the larger universe of Russian technology as it has the ability to answer questions, hold a conversation and even write program codes to develop software. Unlike its foreign competitors, GigaChat is capable of generating both text and images.
GigaChat is currently being released to a small community of testers, who can sign up through a closed Telegram channel. It is the second AI chatbot to be introduced in Russia this spring, with the first being SistemmaGPT, created by Sistemma, an IT company based in Moscow. SistemmaGPT is designed specifically for Russian businesses and government agencies.
The Rise of AI Chatbots in Russia
The emergence of GigaChat and SistemmaGPT indicates Russia's growing interest in AI technology, which has been a major focus for Sberbank in recent years. The financial institution has invested heavily in emerging technology and hopes GigaChat will cement its position on the global stage of AI tech development, as well as in the financial sector.
However, it is important to note that ChatGPT, a popular AI chatbot, has been banned by the Kremlin since November due to fears of disinformation and criminal use. Despite this, GigaChat and SistemmaGPT are expected to continue development and testing throughout the upcoming months.
As AI technology continues to develop and improve, it is likely that more countries will follow Russia's lead and develop their own AI chatbots. This is an exciting time for AI development and we can expect to see more breakthroughs in the near future.
