ChatGPT-AI, Google tech, give voice to Boston Dynamics' robot dog

Boston Dynamics' robot dog, Spot, has been outfitted with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Text-to-Speech speech modulation by a team of programmers. The successful integration was shared in a viral video by machine learning engineer Santiago Valdarrama on Twitter.

The integration allows Spot to answer inquiries about its missions in real-time, significantly boosting data query efficiency. "We can now ask the robots about past and future missions and get an answer in real-time," Valdarrama shared on Twitter.

With the new integration, Spot can give helpful feedback and take orders from the team, providing them with the pertinent information they require. However, specific phrases and procedures had to be developed for ChatGPT to work properly within Spot.

Although AI's use in robotics has resulted in important advancements and breakthroughs, it has also sparked worries about the potential loss of human jobs. Regulations are being developed in numerous nations to combat this. The use of AI in artwork has come under fire, with OpenAI's ChatGPT accused of stealing from artists.

However, the addition of ChatGPT to Spot is a step towards incorporating chatbots into robots. In February, Microsoft published a paper defining design guidelines for ChatGPT-robotics integration.

It is important to carefully consider the incorporation of AI into robotics to avoid controversy, as evidenced by the negative reaction to a video of a Boston Dynamics knockoff robot dog firing a submachine gun last year.
