How ChatGPT is revolutionizing HR and recruiting

Is ChatGPT the Answer to a More Equitable Workplace?

ChatGPT is changing how HR duties can be streamlined with its rapid development. The biggest impact can be seen in the recruiting side of HR. According to Kevin Wheeler, the founder of The Future of Talent Institute, there are endless possibilities of what ChatGPT can do. Microsoft has invested millions of dollars in OpenAI ChatGPT and every recruiting company is already negotiating or signed a contract with them.

ChatGPT can help recruiters and hiring managers sift through resumes, communicate with job candidates, and even write engaging job descriptions. However, it is what happens after someone applies where ChatGPT can make a significant difference. Some algorithms may ultimately become more discriminating in a positive way. Removing the name of the candidate from the resume may make it less biased as 41% of Americans are against AI being used to review job applications and 71% are opposed to it making final hiring decisions, according to a recent Pew study.

Another way ChatGPT can help create equity in the workplace is around fair pay and promotions, key ingredients to building great cultures. Tracy Brower, Ph.D., sociologist and author of “The Secrets to Happiness at Work” suggests that ChatGPT can help with learning and development for employees. It can look inside a company to find employees with skills for new roles and provide them with opportunities they may not have had earlier. It can also improve efficiency on HR teams by automating routine tasks like writing procedure and policy manuals and FAQs to free teams up to be more creative, innovative, and strategic.

The concern remains around ChatGPT replacing humans and eliminating jobs. People who currently write job descriptions may feel threatened; however, offloading routine tasks to ChatGPT can free them up to do more coaching with leaders, talent strategy work or coming up with new and creative ideas for hiring. The World Economic Forum has estimated that AI will replace 85 million jobs by 2025, but it will create 97 million new jobs – a net increase of 13 million. Some of those jobs might include learning how to use ChatGPT, which is quickly becoming an in-demand skill according to 90% of U.S. business leaders who said ChatGPT is a beneficial skill for job seekers.
