YouTuber Casey Neistat lets ChatGPT write and direct one of his vlogs
Casey Neistat, a popular YouTuber known for his vlogs about New York City life, recently decided to explore a new, experimental approach to his content creation. Neistat asked the latest version of ChatGPT, GPT-4, to write and direct one of his vlogs, with the resulting video being unintentionally hilarious. The script, which Neistat reads from a printed-out version, included shots of downtown Manhattan, where he rides his skateboard and visits various locations, such as One World Trade, the Oculus, and Battery Park with a view of the Statue of Liberty. The video also includes a short cameo with Neistat's wife, Candice Pool, near her office.
Despite the funny result, Neistat claims that the video lacked humanity, depth, and soul, which are crucial components of creative works. He believes that tools like GPT-4 should not replace human creativity, but he acknowledges that AI could be useful in certain contexts. For instance, he gave GPT-4 to his eight-year-old daughter to write a story, and the result was compelling. However, he thinks that AI, in its current form, does not pose much of a threat to creatives who make original content, but it may impact those who rely on imitating others.
Neistat draws inspiration from directors like Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry, and he believes that creativity is the result of a human experience that affects other people. While AI can be a useful tool, it should not replace human ingenuity and originality.
