Google laid off at least 200 employees from its "Core" organization, which includes key engineering teams responsible for products and user safety. Google will hire corresponding roles in Mexico and India to operate closer to partners and developer communities. The layoffs include 50 positions in engineering offices in Sunnyvale, California according to filings. Affected teams include information technology, Python developers, infrastructure, security foundation, app platforms, and more. Google is streamlining developer tools as it incorporates more AI like the chatbot Gemini.
