Google introduces Gemini shortcut in Chrome for quick access to the AI chatbot

Google has recently added a new Omnibox shortcut for Gemini in the Chrome address bar, following the international expansion of the Gemini mobile app. This new feature allows users to easily access the conversational AI chatbot by typing @gemini in the search box, followed by their query. Once the prompt is entered, users will be directed to gemini.google.com/chat where the chatbot will be ready to provide answers.

How to use the Gemini shortcut in Chrome:

  1. Step 1: Type @ in the desktop address bar and select Chat with Gemini, or simply type @gemini
  2. Step 2: Enter your query after selecting Gemini from the address bar
  3. Step 3: Receive your response on gemini.google.com in a new chat window without the need to open the website first

In 2022, Google Chrome introduced Omnibox shortcuts for @bookmarks, @history, and @tabs, and the @gemini shortcut is the latest addition to enable quick access to the AI chatbot.

In addition to the desktop version, Google has shared a video guide on X (formerly Twitter) demonstrating how to use the new Gemini shortcut in Chrome. Users can quickly initiate a chat with Gemini using the desktop address bar.

The Gemini app is available globally on the Google Play Store for Android users. It can also be accessed as an opt-in feature via Google Assistant, allowing users to switch to Gemini as their preferred Assistant. Additionally, iOS users can access the chatbot through the Google Search app with a toggle switch at the top.

Furthermore, Google is expanding Gemini's extension feature to provide users in all languages worldwide with access to data from various first-party apps, including Google Flights, Google Hotels, Google Maps, Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs), and YouTube.
