Google's AI Chatbot, Bard, Delayed Due to Safety Concerns

Google’s ChatGPT Rival Bard's Release Was Delayed Due to Safety Concerns

After the introduction of ChatGPT by OpenAI that can compose poems, write essays, and answer questions like a human, Google unveiled its AI chatbot, Bard, in February this year. However, Blake Lemoine, a former Google AI team member, revealed in an interview with Futurism that Bard was in development in mid-2021, and the company was figuring out if it would be safe to release or not. Safety concerns raised by Lemoine led to the delay and eventual deletion of Bard from Google's AI chatbot lineup.

Lemoine also mentioned in the interview that the company has "far more advanced technology" that hasn't been released yet. Google was not being "pushed around" by OpenAI, and the ChatGPT parent company had not affected "Google's trajectory," he emphasized.

Google had lost sleep over ChatGPT for the last couple of months and finally released Bard as a rival AI chatbot. However, the company has been doing things in a safe and responsible manner, according to Lemoine.

In June last year, Lemoine was suspended and eventually fired by Google after he claimed that Google's AI chatbot had gone "sentient." He stated that the AI chatbot "thinks and responds like a human being." His claims received a lot of attention and raised concerns over the safety of AI chatbots.

Despite the delay in releasing Bard, Google continues to innovate and is reportedly working on more advanced AI chatbots.
