42 German unions and organizations representing over 140,000 writers and entertainers urged the European Union to extend draft artificial intelligence regulations as they identified the threat to their copyright from generative AI, such as ChatGPT. In a letter to the European Commission, European Council, and EU lawmakers, the unions for the creative sector Verdi and DGB and associations for photographers, designers, journalists, and illustrators voiced their concerns.
Meanwhile, Meta (formerly Facebook) has begun another round of layoffs, giving formal notices to employees with technical backgrounds globally. Some Meta employees took to LinkedIn to post their distress, saying they have been asked to leave.
