Thanks to the arrival of Gemini Nano, Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a owners can now enjoy more AI features in their devices.
Google has started rolling out the feature drop for Pixels for June. As part of the move, the company has introduced the Gemini Nano to the cheaper models in the Pixel 8 series. To recall, the said Gemini model is already available on the Pixel 8 Pro, but today’s news should also bring it to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a models.
The model should first be activated on the Developer options page of the device’s Setting app, where the options for the AICore must be activated. Once ready, the model will allow the use of various AI capabilities, including Magic Compose in Google Messages and Summarize in Pixel Recorder.
The move is not entirely surprising as the search giant itself continues to promote AI, even on devices that are not under the Pixel brand. To recall, it was earlier reported that the Google Gemini Ultra 1.0 would soon be injected into Oppo and OnePlus phones. Both Oppo and OnePlus confirmed the move during the Google Cloud Next ’24 event. According to the companies, the Gemini Ultra 1.0 LLM will be rolled out to the devices later this year. Moreover, Google announced that it would introduce its AI photo editing features in iOS and other Android devices via Google Photos. It includes the Magic Editor, Photo Unblur, and Magic Eraser features, which were originally available only on Pixel devices and Google One cloud storage subscription service.
