Empowering ChatGPT: The New Web Search Integration Battle

ChatGPT integrates web search to compete with Copilot, Gemini ...

According to the AI technology company OpenAI, ChatGPT has now integrated web search capabilities to position itself against competitors like Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini. Users who are subscribed to the ChatGPT Plus plan or are on the SearchGPT waitlist now have the ability to access real-time information within their conversations.

Functionality within ChatGPT

ChatGPT is not a standalone search product; instead, the search functionality is incorporated within its existing interface. Users have the option to manually activate the web search feature or allow the AI chatbot to autonomously decide when to utilize it.

Adam Fry, the head of ChatGPT’s search team, showcased this feature during a pre-launch presentation by conducting a search for Apple's stock price and related details. The chatbot promptly presented an interactive stock chart along with recent news articles sourced from various platforms.

Availability and Updates

OpenAI has confirmed that the search feature will be accessible across all ChatGPT platforms, including iOS, Android, and desktop applications. Previously, ChatGPT's knowledge was confined to data from either 2021 or 2023, depending on the model version. However, with the implementation of the Bing-powered search feature, users can now receive instant answers and direct links to credible sources.

Partnerships and Reliability

OpenAI collaborates with key content partners such as Associated Press, Reuters, Times, and News Corp to ensure that ChatGPT delivers verified and trustworthy information. Adam Fry emphasized that ChatGPT is currently ad-free, giving it a distinct advantage over Google.
