Elon Musk Launches X.AI to Compete with ChatGPT
Elon Musk, a well-known entrepreneur in the tech industry, has added a new artificial intelligence project, X.AI, to his already numerous ventures. This move came as a surprise to many, as only recently Musk was among 1,800 people warning against further research into AI.
Musk was previously involved in artificial intelligence through OpenAI, one of the founders of ChatGPT, but he left the company three years ago. According to The Wall Street Journal, just a few weeks ago, Musk formed X.AI to develop AI technology and expand its use.
One of Musk's latest endeavors is to change the name of Twitter to X Corp, transforming it into an "everything app." The app would be similar to China's WeChat, which is used to chat, shop online, make video calls, and order appointments.
To make this happen, Musk has hired Igor Babuschkin, a scientist working at the AI lab DeepMind, which is owned by Alphabet, Google's parent company. He has also purchased 10,000 graphics cards called GPUs, which are used to develop language models needed for AI applications such as ChatGPT.
Musk's former colleagues, who enabled ChatGPT's popularity, have been criticized by him since he left OpenAI. Musk even signed an open letter with thousands of experts, asking them to stop studying AI development for six months due to its potential risks.
Overall, it will be interesting to see how X.AI performs and whether it can compete with ChatGPT in the AI industry.
