Elon Musk to Launch AI Startup to Rival OpenAI's ChatGPT
Tech mogul, Elon Musk, is reportedly developing an artificial intelligence (AI) startup to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT, one of the most popular generative AI companies that he had co-founded in 2015. This announcement came after reports of Musk assembling a team of AI researchers and engineers. Although Musk left the board of OpenAI three years ago, his entry into this new AI venture will put him alongside other tech giants like Google and Microsoft in the race to lead next-gen AI.
According to Financial Times (FT), Musk is in discussion with existing SpaceX and Tesla investors regarding investments for the upcoming AI venture, which is generating excitement among potential investors. An anonymous source revealed on April 12 that Musk had already procured 10,000 graphics processing units to power Twitter’s AI initiatives, further indicating his AI ambitions.
On March 9, Musk incorporated X.AI, where he listed himself as the company's sole director. He also changed Twitter's name to "X Corp," all as part of his plans to create an "everything app" under the "X" brand. This move follows Musk and over 2600 tech leaders and researchers signing an open letter urging a pause on further AI development, citing potential risks that it poses to society and humanity.
Meanwhile, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has also entered into the AI race with its Amazon Bedrock initiative, which will enable AWS users to build generative AI from foundation models.
In conclusion, Elon Musk's upcoming AI venture will rival OpenAI's ChatGPT and aims to be the leader in the next-gen AI era. With discussions underway with potential investors, the excitement around this AI startup is palpable.
