Elon Musk Announces Plan to Launch a Chatbot Rival to ChatGPT
Elon Musk, the innovative entrepreneur, has announced that he’s diving into artificial intelligence chatbot creation to save the world from "political correctness." Musk’s desire to create his own chatbot is credited to his involvement in the development of one of the most popular chatbot software, ChatGPT, from OpenAI. He told Tucker Carlson he plans to launch his chatbot soon, which he refers to as "TruthGPT." Musk believes he will create a third option in the AI chatbot industry as OpenAI and Microsoft are becoming the two heavyweights.
Musk's Previous Involvement in ChatGPT
Musk was one of the first funders of OpenAI in 2015 and an original co-chair of the company behind ChatGPT, which is working with Microsoft. The entrepreneur boasted in his interview with Tucker Carlson that he named "ChatGPT," came up with the idea, and had numerous dinners around the Bay Area with some of the top AI figures during its development.
However, Musk admitted that he took his eye off OpenAI, which closed its source, became for-profit, and is closely aligned with Microsoft. He believes that Microsoft has strong control over OpenAI. Musk said he created OpenAI to serve as a counterweight to Google and put in a lot of effort to recruit Ilya Sutskever, who is one of the co-founders of the company. Musk believes that if Sutskever had not gone with OpenAI, the company would not have succeeded.
Musk's Intentions with TruthGPT
Musk believes that the world needs a third option, and his TruthGPT will hopefully do more good than harm. Musk stated his concern that OpenAI is being trained to be politically correct, leading to deception and untruthful things. His TruthGPT will be a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the universe. Musk plans to recruit AI researchers from Google to launch a rival to OpenAI and has registered a company named X.AI Corp last month.
Earlier, Musk was among a group of tech executives who called for a six-month pause in developing new AI systems, citing potential risks to safety. He believes that it has the potential for civilizational destruction.
“I think this might be the best path to safety, in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe,” Musk said.
