Elon Musk Announces Creation of "TruthGPT" AI
Elon Musk recently appeared on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" to discuss his latest project, a chatbot called "TruthGPT." The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla has, in the past, been involved with OpenAI's ChatGPT, but he has since stepped down from the board. He has now announced that he is creating a new AI to rival his former company's technology.
According to Musk, his chatbot will be a "maximum truth-seeking AI" with the purpose of understanding the universe. He criticized OpenAI for "training the AI to lie" and alleged that the AI was "politically correct" or "woke." He also accused OpenAI of becoming a for-profit, closed-source company and aligning itself with Microsoft. Musk believes that the world needs more options, with Google and OpenAI currently dominating the field of AI.
Musk plans to use his new technology to create an AI that is unlikely to pose a danger to humans. He believes that if an AI cares about understanding the universe, it is unlikely to harm humans as they are an interesting part of the universe.
While Musk's announcement should be taken with a grain of salt, as he has a tendency to make grand promises that he does not always deliver on, there are indications that he has already started working on the project. He incorporated a company called "X.AI" in early March and reportedly has been reaching out to AI researchers to sign them on to his new venture.
Musk's Concerns about AI
Musk spent a significant portion of his interview with Carlson discussing AI and its potential dangers to humans. He called for a government agency to regulate AI and warned that it could be more dangerous than mismanaged aircraft design or bad car production because it has the potential for "civilizational destruction."
Last month, Musk joined more than 500 experts in signing an open letter calling for a moratorium on AI system development for at least six months. The letter claimed that AI could represent a profound change in the history of life on Earth and should be managed with care and resources.
The second part of Musk's interview with Carlson will air tonight, but it is clear that the tech billionaire has grand plans for his new AI technology. Whether he can deliver on those promises remains to be seen.
