Starling Bank's 'Spending Intelligence' Debuts with Gemini for AI ...
Starling Bank has partnered with Gemini (not the crypto company, but Google's AI product) to introduce 'Spending Intelligence'. This feature allows customers to inquire about their expenses and gain real-time insights into their finances. The decision to utilize Gemini aligns with Starling's infrastructure, which operates on Google Cloud.
'Spending Intelligence' is a new functionality within the Starling banking app, integrating a large language model chatbot – a first in the UK banking sector. This feature is accessible to all Starling account holders, including personal, business, sole, and joint accounts.
Positioned within the spending section of the app, the chatbot not only answers questions but also interprets context. Users can seek information on specific spending categories, such as groceries or charitable donations, and the chatbot processes both typed and spoken commands across over 50 customizable categories.

Harriet Rees, Chief Information Officer at Starling, emphasizes the importance of spending insights in aiding customer savings. She stated, "We're having a think about how you could save. But we genuinely believe giving customers insights about how they are spending is the best way to get them thinking about where they could save."
