OpenAI about 75% revenue from consumer subscriptions, ChatGPT reaches 250 million weekly active users
According to Bloomberg, OpenAI generates approximately 75% of its revenue from consumer subscriptions, as disclosed by CFO Sarah Friar.
Consumer Strategy
OpenAI's consumer strategy revolves around ChatGPT. The flagship product is offered through a monthly subscription starting at $20 (approximately Rs. 143). The company has effectively converted 5% to 6% of free users into paid subscribers.
Currently, ChatGPT boasts 250 million active weekly users.
Focus on Enterprise Users
Besides the consumer market, OpenAI is strongly targeting enterprise users. In September, the company revealed that its enterprise solutions - ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and ChatGPT Edu - have amassed over a million paying clients. Friar highlighted that the enterprise divisions have started generating profits, despite being in the developmental phase.
Friar also emphasized OpenAI's aggressive expansion of infrastructure. This includes the construction of data centers in the U.S. with the capacity to provide up to 5 gigawatts of power to drive the growth of its AI operations.
