Chef Admits His Smash Hit Pizza Was Invented by ChatGPT
A chef in Dubai revealed that his smash hit pizza recipe was actually invented by OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT. Spartak Arutyunyan, head of menu development for the international pizza chain Dodo Pizza, shared with BBC that the unique recipe suggested by ChatGPT turned out to be incredibly popular and remains on the menu.
Unexpected Flavor Combinations
To capture Dubai's diverse culinary traditions, ChatGPT proposed a blend of unconventional ingredients for the pizza, including Arab shawarma chicken, Indian grilled paneer cheese, Middle Eastern Za'atar herbs, and tahini sauce. This unusual mix of flavors created a cross-cultural culinary experience that resonated with customers.
Arutyunyan admitted that as a chef, he would have never thought to combine these ingredients on a pizza, but the resulting fusion of flavors was surprisingly delightful.
AI in Culinary Innovation
While ChatGPT successfully curated a winning pizza recipe in this instance, not all of its culinary suggestions made the final cut. Arutyunyan mentioned that some rejected ideas included a pizza topped with strawberries and pasta, as well as a pie featuring blueberries and breakfast cereal.
AI-powered culinary experiments have been met with mixed results in the industry. Some ventures, like the "bespoke smoothie shop" BetterBlends, have struggled to gain traction and eventually closed down. However, chefs like Velvet Taco's Venecia Willis see AI as a valuable tool for overcoming creative blocks and exploring new flavor combinations.
AI's Influence on Culinary Creations
Despite skepticism from some experts, AI chatbots like ChatGPT continue to intrigue and inspire culinary professionals with their out-of-the-box suggestions.
