Introducing Incognito Mode on ChatGPT
ChatGPT is a popular AI tool that is widely used globally. One of the essential features of any chat application is the privacy of the user. Acknowledging that, the company behind ChatGPT, OpenAI, has announced a new privacy feature, i.e., Incognito mode, which will enable users to have more control over their chat data.
By default, ChatGPT saves user chat history, which can be accessed from the sidebar until the user deletes each conversation. However, with the introduction of the Incognito mode, users can turn off chat history, which will keep their conversations private and not be used to train AI models.
OpenAI has confirmed that the feature is now available for all users, and they can find it in the ChatGPT settings. The company also stated that with this feature, they hope to provide an easier way to manage user data than the existing opt-out process.
When users disable chat history, OpenAI will retain new conversations for 30 days and review them only when needed to monitor for abuse, before permanently deleting them. However, it's important to note that conversations with ChatGPT are still recorded, but will eventually be deleted.
OpenAI is also working on a Business subscription, which will be aimed at professionals and enterprises seeking to manage their end-users' data. This could be helpful for companies that warn their employees to refrain from utilizing ChatGPT to avoid their confidential data being accidentally integrated into AI models.
Several companies have already cautioned their employees not to use ChatGPT to prevent any misuse of confidential data. For example, Amazon, Walmart, and Verizon have all taken measures to ensure their employees' privacy. Some companies have reportedly blocked employee access to ChatGPT entirely.
Overall, with the introduction of the Incognito mode, ChatGPT users can have peace of mind that their conversations are relatively private and secure, with better control over their data.
