UBS: ChatGPT Breaks Records as the Fastest Growing App of All Time
OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT has set a new record as the fastest-growing app in history, with an estimated 123 million monthly active users reached in less than three months upon launch. According to UBS analysts, it took TikTok nine months and Instagram 2.5 years to hit 100 million monthly active users, while ChatGPT achieved 123 million in less than three months. The estimated 123 million monthly unique visitors of ChatGPT represent a 116% month-over-month growth, which is equivalent to Bing’s unique visitors in December. As of January 28, ChatGPT was averaging around 13 million unique visitors per day, more than twice the levels seen at the end of December.
Based on data from Similarweb, OpenAI’s ChatGPT has garnered 266 million total users since its launch in November 2022. Users spend an average of seven minutes using the chatbot, with the US accounting for 19.01% of total users. Other top countries where ChatGPT users originate include India (5.42%), the UK (3.61%), France (3.44%), and Germany (3.27%).
The top audience interests for ChatGPT include developer software, computers and electronics, technology, and news, according to Similarweb stats. The largest source of traffic to ChatGPT is direct, driving 64.3% of desktop visits in January alone, followed by referrals (21.77%), while the most underutilized channel is display ads.
OpenAI recently launched a paid-for premium version of its chatbot called ChatGPT Plus, which will charge $20 per month. Subscribers will have access to faster responses, priority service for new features, and priority access to ChatGPT during peak times when demand is high.
