What is ChatGPT Plus? Everything You Need to Know
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Plus, a subscription-based AI chatbot service that aims to offer quicker speeds and more dependable access to users who need it. While the standard version of ChatGPT remains free to use, ChatGPT Plus is a whole different GPT-4-based service that is designed to offer a more precise machine learning helper that can be utilized for professional use cases such as writing and editing content, programming, and learning new topics.
ChatGPT Plus was formally announced on February 1, 2023, after weeks of insider information leaks. It has a monthly subscription fee of $20, much less than what was initially rumored. The success of the subscription model should be guaranteed by the fact that some individuals have to wait for hours to enter. The main advantage of purchasing ChatGPT Plus is having access to ChatGPT during busy hours, giving priority access to upgrades and new features.
Unlike ChatGPT Standard which uses GPT-3.5, ChatGPT Plus is officially supported by GPT-4, a considerably more powerful AI tool, which offers 40% more factual replies. According to OpenAI, GPT-4 is a considerably more effective collaboration tool for creative activities. GPT-4 has substantial enhancements that include access to data before 2022 obtained through the internet, the capacity to receive visual input rather than just text, and substantially lengthier text inputs and outputs. In contrast to ChatGPT’s 3,000-word restriction, GPT-4 has a staggering 25,000-word limit.
The cost of running ChatGPT Plus has been reported to be as high as $700,000 a day, though we are unsure of the exact number of members it presently has. Despite the high operating costs, OpenAI will be able to manage bandwidth concerns with a premium subscription, especially during busy periods of the day. Hence, it is fair to believe that OpenAI will cover the cost of operation through the premium membership.
Upgrades to the servers should be covered by the premium membership. Initially, early access to ChatGPT Plus was only available via invitation after being placed on a waitlist. However, you can now simply click “Upgrade to Plus” at the bottom of the sidebar to upgrade your account to ChatGPT Plus.
While we are still unsure of the company’s plans for releasing further iterations of its chatbot, the most notable of these LLM updates being developed by OpenAI is GPT-4.5. We don’t know much about this revised model other than the fact that it will build on GPT-4’s base. In the past, OpenAI has predicted that GPT-4.5 may be trained to completion and available to use by September or October of this year.
Overall, ChatGPT Plus is an exciting development for those who want to have quicker and more reliable access to AI chatbots. While ChatGPT Standard remains free to use, the subscription model of ChatGPT Plus offers faster and more reliable access to users who have professional use cases that require machine learning helpers.
