Woman Shares Hysterical Email Written by ChatGPT to Boss About Quitting Job
A woman has shared a funny email response written by the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT after she requested help in creating a “professional” letter to quit her job. The TikToker, known as @sillyyerba, shared a video in which she read out a line from the AI-generated note: “I cannot be sad and poor for another month.”
In the clip, Mari explained that she had submitted her two-weeks notice letter to her boss, but her boss had requested her to continue working until 8 June. To craft a response “professionally,” Mari asked ChatGPT to write an email response for her. She prompted the AI with: “Write a professional email saying I can’t be sad and poor for another month replying to this email” and then added her manager’s email in quotes.
ChatGPT's response began with a thank-you note for Mari's email and for providing notice of her final working day being Saturday 6 May. The chatbot then expressed regret in being unable to extend Mari's time beyond that date. Although Mari acknowledged that her boss would be “open to a longer transition time,” she said, “due to personal circumstances,” she would be “unable to continue working beyond 6 May”.
After Mari read out the sentence where ChatGPT wrote, “As much as I value my time here, I cannot be sad and poor for another month,” she could not stop laughing. While the AI then transitioned back into a professional tone, the message concluded with a hope that “this does not cause any inconvenience to the team and that we can end things on a positive note”.
The video Mari shared where she read out the email has been viewed over eight million times, with viewers finding it hilarious. Some users even said that the chatbot could not come up with a better way of phrasing the sentiment and encouraged Mari to send the email as written.
However, in a follow-up video, Mari revealed that she did not send the original email created by ChatGPT. She directed the AI to make the email sound “more human” and removed the line about being “sad and poor”.
