ChatGPT Surpasses Netflix, Reddit; Now 6th Most Visited Site
ChatGPT has marked a significant milestone by climbing to the position of the sixth most visited site globally in January 2025, according to data from Similarweb. The AI-powered chatbot platform, available at chatgpt.com, now commands 2.33% of global internet traffic, reflecting a 5.91% increase from the previous month.
While Google leads the market with a substantial 29.21% share of traffic, and YouTube follows with 20.40%, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman acknowledges ChatGPT's rapid growth but notes the substantial gap that still exists between ChatGPT and Google. Despite its remarkable progress, Altman tweeted, "still a long way to go to run down Google" in response to the latest ranking.
Among other notable platforms on the list are Facebook at 5.08%, WhatsApp at 3.15%, Instagram at 2.36%, X at 1.92%, Yahoo at 1.88%, Reddit at 1.62%, and Netflix at 1.60%.
The surge in ChatGPT's traffic underscores the increasing reliance on AI tools for various purposes such as seeking answers, writing assistance, and accessing information. This trend suggests that with continued enhancements, ChatGPT has the potential to further ascend the rankings in the coming months.
