Microsoft Founder Bill Gates Challenged ChatGPT To Pass The AP Biology Exam
Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, recently shared an interesting anecdote about how he challenged the OpenAI Microsoft team to notify him when their language model, ChatGPT, could pass the AP Biology exam. This challenge was revealed during a fireside chat with Jessie Woolley-Wilson, CEO of DreamBox Learning, in San Diego.
Gates highlighted AI's remarkable achievements in speech and image recognition but mentioned that its ability to read and write had been lacking - until recently. He stated that ChatGPT was one of the most significant technological innovations he had seen and praised its transformative possibilities.
Gates previously hosted a dinner with OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman, co-founder Greg Brockman, and others where he was the first person outside OpenAI to see GPT-4. He stated that AI could help with everything from time-saving paperwork tasks to conducting research on life-saving drugs and revolutionizing education.
During the interview, Gates also expressed his opinion on the use of AI in education. He predicted that ChatGPT would replace teachers as the technology is expected to be valuable for education, especially in areas such as math and writing. Gates said, "If you just took the next 18 months, the AIs will come in as a teacher’s aide and give feedback on writing. And then they will amp up what we’re able to do in math."
However, not everyone shares Gates' optimistic outlook on the use of AI. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015 and reportedly working on a ChatGPT rival called TruthGPT, has raised concerns about the rapid development of AI and called for its regulation to keep the system in check.
Despite the concerns, Gates remains confident about the future of AI and its potential to improve education, research, and many other areas of life.
