Are AI Screenwriters a Threat to Human Creativity?

Could AI Pen 'Casablanca'? Screenwriters Take Aim at ChatGPT

The rise of generative artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, has caused anxiety among screenwriters in Hollywood. One of their primary concerns is the possibility of chatbots writing or rewriting scripts in the entertainment industry.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has already gone on strike for better pay in the streaming era, but AI's growing influence is making screenwriters even more skeptical. Greg Brockman, OpenAI's co-founder, compared the potential of AI in entertainment to Game of Thrones, where viewers could put themselves in the show or see its ending rewritten according to their preferences.

However, Danny Strong, the creator of hit shows Dopesick and Empire, called AI "terrifying." He has read some of ChatGPT's writing and is convinced that it could lead to the replacement of human writers with technological ones, ultimately damaging the quality of the entertainment.

While this development may be a few years away, screenwriters feel that they need to protect their jobs and creative output. The WGA has made it a mission to combat AI's incursion into the entertainment industry and prioritize the rights and fair treatment of human writers.
