AI in India: Companies Tread with Caution but Implement ChatGPT

Indian Firms Implementing Artificial Intelligence, Including ChatGPT, with Caution

As artificial general intelligence (AGI) technology continues to advance in the areas of language translation and data analysis, Indian enterprises and startups are cautiously considering the benefits and drawbacks of implementing it in their products before doing so. Companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, HCL Tech, and Tech Mahindra are among those who have recognized the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and are investing in it accordingly, with TCS aiming to create a center of excellence in generative AI, and Infosys launching initiatives that target specific client business segments with generative AI platforms. Despite the increasing interest, Indian firms are treading cautiously to ensure they develop responsible and ethical AI by keeping its pros and cons in mind.

Indian Firms Fast Catching Up with ChatGPT AI Technology

According to TCS Chief Operating Officer NG Subramaniam, clients are already inquiring about ChatGPT and its potential uses in the future, prompting TCS to develop core competencies around responsible and ethical AI for its clients. A recent Gartner report stated that 45% of executives have increased AI investments after hearing about ChatGPT. Additionally, 70% of executives said their organizations are in exploration mode with generative AI, while 19% are in pilot or production mode.

While 68% of executives believe that the benefits of generative AI outweigh the risks, only 5% feel that the risks outweigh the benefits. However, executives' perspectives may shift as investments deepen, and organizations work to determine where to allocate funds, which products are worth investing in, when to begin, and how to mitigate the risks that come with the emerging technology.

Indian Startups Implementing AI-Driven Immersive Learning Experiences

In response to the growing demand for online learning in the ChatGPT era, Flipick has launched an AI-driven immersive learning experience to provide customers with a better experience. The company offers an industry-leading SaaS-based Learning Management System (LMS) for higher education and corporate training in the US, the UK, and India. Additionally, CourseBOT, an AI-assisted course builder with SME collaboration, and DocuBOT are available to help thousands of students have conversational chats with the content to gain a better learner’s perspective. According to Flipick's Founder and CEO, Ravi Dugal, AI-powered tools can help institutions streamline administrative tasks and optimize resource allocation.

Other Companies Implementing ChatGPT AI Technology

Software giant Adobe has recently announced new generative AI innovations across its Experience Cloud platform, aiming to redefine how businesses deliver customer experiences. Meanwhile, Jio Haptik Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Jio Platforms, plans to use ChatGPT AI and generative AI to develop human-like bots for large enterprises. Travel service provider MakeMyTrip is also testing the ChatGPT AI chatbot to improve customer experiences and vacation planning on its platform. While the integration is in its early stages, Sanjay Mohan, MakeMyTrip's Group CTO, says the company will only use it if the results are satisfactory.

Indian Job Market Experiences High Demand for AI Talent

The demand for AI talent has increased by 11% in India over the past six months, spurred by job demands in sectors such as IT, retail, telecom, BFSI, and advertising/market research sectors. According to a report by foundit (previously Monster India & APAC), the Indian job market will see a 22% churn over the next five years, with the top emerging roles coming from AI, machine learning, and data segments.

Indian firms have recognized the vast potential of ChatGPT and other generative AI technologies, and are investing in them cautiously with responsible and ethical development in mind. As India's job market continues to grow in AI and data-related fields, the nation is poised to become a major player in the burgeoning AI field.
