Apple is working on affordable Vision Pro headset and Meta Ray...
Apple is gearing up to release new versions of its Vision Pro headset, with one of them potentially being more lightweight and affordable. This information comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who shared the details in his latest Power On newsletter. The tech giant appears to be shifting its focus towards making its mixed reality technology more accessible to a broader audience.
Apple CEO Tim Cook's Vision
According to Gurman, Apple CEO Tim Cook has had a long-term vision in mind for several years. Cook envisions true augmented reality glasses as the ultimate goal — lightweight spectacles that users can comfortably wear throughout the day. These AR glasses would overlay data and images onto the real world, offering users an immersive experience.
Apple's Temporary Steps
While working towards the ultimate goal of AR glasses, Apple is also said to be exploring temporary solutions. The company is reportedly developing smart devices that serve as an interim step before the full-fledged AR glasses are ready. These devices are expected to be similar to Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses, providing features like photo capture, music playback, and AI-powered assistance.
Meta has already achieved success with its non-AR smart glasses, paving the way for its progression towards AR spectacles. In a similar vein, Apple is looking to introduce AI-powered cameras in future iterations of its Apple Watch and AirPods as part of the interim solution.
Apple's Development Efforts
Furthermore, Apple has been working on its own glasses equipped with cameras and microphones, as mentioned in the report by Gurman.
