AESL Deepens Its Footprint In Khavda With The Award Of 7 GW Transmission Project
Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) announced the completion of the SPV acquisition of the Khavda Phase-IV Part-A transmission project. AESL, India’s largest private transmission and distribution company and a part of the globally diversified Adani portfolio, finalized the acquisition after receiving a letter of intent (LOI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd.
Project Details
The Khavda IVA Power Transmission Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established by RECPDCL for evacuating 7 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) from Khavda RE Park under Phase IV Part A package, has now been acquired by AESL for project execution. This project involves connecting 765 kV double circuit lines from Khavda to Lakadia and Khavda to Bhuj in Gujarat, along with setting up transformation capacity of 4,500 MVA.
Khavda, known as the world’s largest renewable energy park with a planned generation capacity of 30 GW, will significantly contribute to India’s decarbonization efforts. The project awarded to AESL enhances the availability of critical transmission infrastructure necessary for the evacuation of clean energy.
Impact on Energy Transition
The Adani Group’s dedicated efforts aim to transform Khavda from a barren land into a pivotal point in India’s net-zero journey. AESL secured the project through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process and plans to commission it within the next 24 months on BOOT (Build, Own Operate, and Transfer) basis, maintaining it for the following 35 years.
The estimated investment for the ~298 km (596 ckm) transmission project amounts to ~Rs 4,091 crore. Additionally, the project includes the installation of 300 MVAr STATCOM, 3×1500 MVA 765/400 kV Inter-connecting Transformer (ICTs) with 1×330 MVAr, 765 kV, and 1×125 MVAr, 420 kV bus reactors.
"As the world’s largest renewable energy park, Khavda demands power evacuation infrastructure that is not only world-class but also resilient and future-ready," quoted Mr. Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer of AESL. "AESL is proud to be part of this initiative, as this network will play an important role in the seamless flow of green energy to the national grid, bolstering India’s journey towards net-zero."
