5 Key Cybersecurity Takeaways from RSA 2023

Check Out the Most Interesting Talks and News from RSA 2023

Recently concluded RSA Conference 2023 had a lot of interesting discussions, and here are some noteworthy ones:

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The conference saw AI as the unofficial topic where speakers discussed AI's threats and opportunities for cybersecurity. Rohit Ghai, RSA CEO, in his opening keynote "The Looming Identity Crisis" talked about the importance of AI for securing identities. He said that "Without good AI, zero trust has zero chance. Bad AI will take us for a ride. And identity is a sitting duck". Chris Krebs, former Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director, and Lisa Monaco, U.S. Deputy Attorney General, had a keynote conversation where Monaco talked about the DOJ's focus on what the adversary nation-states are doing to acquire, use and abuse disruptive technologies.

Generative AI

Cybersecurity researchers at Tenable are experimenting with generative AI tools to accelerate research capabilities in reducing cyber research complexity and boosting efficiency. Tenable Research released a report titled “How Generative AI Is Changing Security Research,” which explains several generative AI tools' development using large language models (LLMs) for cybersecurity research complexity reduction and efficiency boosting. The report also details how Tenable Research is experimenting with these tools to accelerate research capabilities.

Zero Trust

During a panel discussion moderated by Tenable CSO Robert Huber, high-ranking federal cyber leaders discussed how government agencies can pursue their efforts to adopt zero trust. The discussion included topics like identity management, network architecture, data protection, and security.

Cloud Security

Phil Venables, CISO of Google Cloud, discussed in his presentation titled “The Megatrends Driving Cloud Adoption – And Improving Security For All,” how eight factors, including increased competition among cloud providers and economies of scale, are serving to boost security. He said that it’s the way on-premises infrastructure is typically handled, which makes it difficult to grasp the full complexity of the infrastructure. For organizations looking to initiate or expand cloud deployments, Venables advised three basic steps - understand the risks, secure the perimeter, and control access.

The RSA Conference 2023 had many other noteworthy cybersecurity topics, like zero trust, supply chain risks, cloud security, and ransomware, discussed in various sessions. With such conferences happening every year, cybersecurity experts and enthusiasts always get an opportunity to attend and learn about the latest cybersecurity trends and developments.
