Re: Hitting insane 429 errors - Google Cloud Community
Hello, I am not sure what happened, but ever since last night, I've started hitting 429 on essentially every single call while using the Gemini 2.5 Pro model. I am on Pay As You Go plan. I've done some research and learned about the DSQ, could DSQ really be the reason here? I also keep hitting the same errors even when I switch regions, which makes me think its something with my account itself rather than DSQ. Any help in trying to figure this out would be greatly appreciated.
@MadR7., Welcome to Google Cloud Community! Dynamic Shared Quota (DSQ) provides flexible access to shared resources without fixed limits per user. However, when overall demand surges, the entire shared pool can run out of resources, resulting in 429 errors even if your individual usage is low. Since DSQ operates globally per model, changing regions won’t necessarily resolve the issue if the model’s shared pool is saturated across the system. This explains why you’re encountering the same problem regardless of region. For more details, please refer to this guide: A guide to handling 429 errors.
Other factors to consider include: As a possible workaround, review your Vertex AI Quotas and Billing overview. Some users have reported discrepancies in quota tracking, particularly with newer models. Was this helpful? If so, please accept this answer as “Solution”. @MadR7 : It's probably not related to your account. Some of us also experienced 429 yesterday.
