Google Gemini Spotify Extension with play and search functions
Google has released a new Gemini extension for Spotify that lets users play and search for music on the service by interacting with the Gemini AI assistant on Android Smartphones. This exciting feature is now rolling out, giving users more control and convenience when enjoying their favorite tunes on Spotify.
Enhanced Spotify Functionality
According to an update on the Gemini Support page, users can now make use of the Google Gemini extension to play and search for specific albums, songs, artists, playlists, and more on Spotify. This extension brings Spotify closer to other services like YouTube Music that already have similar capabilities.
Previously, WhatsApp was the first to offer Gemini-powered messaging and calling features. Now, Spotify joins the ranks as the second third-party service to integrate with Google's powerful Gemini Artificial Intelligence assistant.
New Gemini Utilities Extension
In addition to the Spotify extension, Google has also introduced the Gemini Utilities extension. This extension allows users to access Android settings, websites, and apps using voice commands, further enhancing the overall user experience and convenience.
Requirements for Spotify Extension
Google has specified that the Spotify extension will only work if Gemini is set as the default assistant and configured to use the English language or within the Gemini app. Unfortunately, this feature is not yet available on the Gemini app for iOS.
Users need to link their Spotify account to their Google account to take advantage of the Spotify extension. Once the accounts are linked, users can open the app, access extensions by tapping on their profile picture, and manually enable the Spotify option. It's important to note that only Spotify Premium subscribers will have access to certain specific song requests.
